Lao National Sports Committee Vice President, Mr Somphou Phongsa, has asked the women's football committee to select the nation's most skilful players to join the national squad.
Mr Somphou Phongsa. The women's football committee can select leading players from the following clubs: Five Star, Nongpaen, the National University of Laos and Saendin. Provincial representatives from Vientiane , Xayaboury, Khammuan and Savannakhet provinces are also eligible for selection.
Ten women's football teams participated in the inaugural Deputy Prime Minister's Cup at the National Football Stadium in May, which is the most prestigious event on the women's football calendar.
It was divided into two groups; group A consisted four teams from Vientiane : Nongpaen, Saendin, Police, the Physical Education Teacher Training School, and the Savannakhet provincial team.
Group B comprised the National University of Laos, Five Star and provincial teams from Xayaboury, Khammuan and Vientiane . Five Star football club won the event.
The sports committee held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss leading performers in the tournament, with a view to national team selection later in the year.
Mr Somphou said players from many clubs still lacked tournament experience in Laos . They suffered from an irregular training schedule because football had not yet become a professional sport in Laos .
He said the committee would look for the best players from the eighth National Games in Champassak province in December to join in the national team to compete in Vientiane at next year's 25 th SEA Games.
The Lao Football Federation plans to send the women's team to compete in the Asean Football Federation Women's Football Championship in Vietnam this October.
