The number of Lao students trained in Vietnam will increase this year as the Vietnamese government steps up its education aid program to its near neighbor, a Party official said.
Truong Tan Sang, member of the Party Secretariat, said between 4,000 and 5,000 students will receive train ing at Vietnamese institutions.
Abou 3,400 students were enrolled in 50 Vietnamese universities in the 2007-08 school year.
Laos Ambassador Soonthorn Xayachack said Vietnam was the biggest education aid contributor to his nation, with more than 60,000 Lao students completing training in Vietnam so far.
Many Vietnamese-trained Lao people now hold key positions in the government of Laos, she said.
After meeting with Lao students at the Hanoi-based National Economics University on Saturday, Sang called for the quality of the training provided to Lao students to be improved.
Sang said better training would assist the two nations’ economic integration.
When they got scholarship to study in Vietnam, they have to take it. If they have a choice, I think they probably choose Australia, Japan, Singapore, France, Great Britain, United States, etc...

Yes, I agree.
So it is nothing new or special about it. If they had other choice the would not pick Vietnam to go study.
Ya I do agree with Deuan, we shoud emphasis on both quality and quantity. The government of Vietnam should make a screening to select only the active and smart Lao students to study in Vietnam to get the most of the benefit from this program. I really don't want it to be just only a "fashion" for some laotian.

Please translate. I can't read Thai. I can only read Lao.
I would to translate in short of the comment above ( a student who is studying in Vietnam now) In short the situation of majority of Lao students studying in Vietnam is bad, according to him there are many problems which Lao students have created such as drinking, fighting, staying up late, getting up late, not studying hard enough etc....so I believe Lao government should select strickly future students to study in Vietnam or the purpose of study will become in vain.
Thank you Deuan, thank you very much for the information about Lao students in Vietnam. I just hope that some high ranking officials from Laos Ministry of Education read about this, and take appropriate steps, and bring the "bad" apples home.
