I'm confused,
In Thailand don't they also have:
women wearing sarongs (slightly different design but still)
tuk tuks
monks
smiles (advertising land of smiles)
a nop (just called a wai)
they say sabai dee, even though not as a greeting
similar hair styles
many ethnic groups
similar seasons
similar cultural and religious festivals
beautiful mountains
old khmer temples and old stupas
they share the mekong

I just wonder what exactly makes laos and thailand so different - in a positive way, not a negative way, i dont want to hear about how bad the thai are, just about how good and 'different' the lao are. The list so far, looks very thai.

Don't compare Lao people with Eesan people because Eesan people are also Lao. Definitely you will not see much difference, but if you compare Lao people with Thai people, who are the real Thai, live in central part of Thailand. Then you will see big diffirence, no doubt. There no single woman wear sarong "sinh", unlike Lao women do.

If you look up the history, Lao and Thai people were the same ethnic group, divided into two countries later on.

40. HATED ?  not true.  They might feel Thai people look down on them because they are Lao, but not HATING them.  The meanings are two different things.  The murderer is hated by his victim's family, this is called HATE.

Number 40 should have been, FEELING LOOKED DOWN UPON BY THAI PEOPLE.  It's not true on all Lao people, especially for the well to do, good looking and educated ones.

 40. People with a poor education who cannot think for themselves and just speak ideology and follow others like a sheep and who unfortunately call themselves Lao, hate Thai people.

If the main things u can think of for distinguishing lao from Thai are clothes then thats a silly argument. Anyone can wear anything. I can wear a burka but it does not make me a muslim. What is it that you really 'believe' in that makes you different from Thai? Its not about all this stujpid clothing and singing and dancing nonsense, anyone can do that. Ask yourself, what is it in your heart that makes you so different?

I am really surpised that we have someone in here is so stupid, doesn't know even what is different between Lao and Thai. No other way to identify people where they come from, if not besed on their cultures, their appearences, their life styles.

In fact, he should know well if he is Thai because Thai people always look down the Eesan, the Thai Lanna (Thai neau) and Thai Muslim in the South. That is why they really hate the so called real Thai people living in central part of Thailand.

If i am not mistake, the question for this topic is that 100 things to show foreigners that this is Laos, not 100 things to prove that you are lao.

Japanese also eat sticky rice. Also in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia.
Sticky rice is not only Lao people eat, and it doesn't present well about Lao
