JDS fellows arrive home

(KPL) 15 Lao graduates under the Japanese Development Scholarship programme have separately returned home from Japan between July and early October this year.

The 15 master’s fellows of International University of Japan, Hiroshima, Kobe Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology and Ritsumeikan had completed their study and graduated successfully.

On the occasion, Ministry of Education organised a reporting meeting of the result of their study and future plan for development of Laos. In the meeting, three fellows from Ban Keun Teacher’s Training College, the National University of Laos and Urban Development Administration Authority made a presentation on their master’s thesis, commitment to contribute to their organisation and Laos and their future plan.

The fellows have graduated in the Public Policy/Administration, Economics, Business Administration, Education/Educational Administration, International Relations, Agriculture/Rural Development and Engineering.

The session discussed issues about “what to be done in the next five years for the poverty eradication by 2020” by introducing the outcome of the research.

Some fellows will return to their previous working place and some fellows will look for jobs, but all of them are expected to share their experience, knowledge and skills gained from Japan for development of Laos.

The session was attended by representatives of organisations such as Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Party Central Committee for Organisation and Personnel, Embassy of Japan in Laos, Jica Laos Office, Jica experts, Director of presenters’ and JAOL as well as senior JDS fellows. This JDS project started in 1999. During the eight years of operation, 170 fellows have been admitted to Japanese universities.

Since October 2007, 118 students, including 15 newly returning fellows, have already returned home with successful study, now they are playing important roles for the development of Laos.

Under the 9th year programme, it is on the process of selecting 25 new JDS fellows for the eight fields of Law, Public Policy/Administration, Economics, Business Administration, International Relations, Agriculture/Rural Development, Education/Educational Administration and Engineering.
