(KPL) Champassak province is accelerating the construction of tourism infrastructure to handle with large number of tourists are being headed to Champassak.
The Champassak is an abundant province of natural tourism resources of mountainous, forests and rivers including Sepieng and Khonephapheng waterfall.
A tourism important site that is attracting tourists was Vat Phou Champassak is a ruined Khmer temple complex in southern Laos.
It is located at the base of mount Phou Kao, some 6 km from the Mekong River in Champassak province. There was a temple on the site as early as the 5th century, but the surviving structures date from the 11th to 13th centuries. The Vat Phou Champassak was approved by UNESCO as the second place of the world heritage site of Laos last year.
Mr Khamphol Nouasaengsy, Head of Champassak Tourism Division said that the construction of tourism infrastructure aiming at handling with the number of foreign tourists to visit Champassak province.
The Administrative Board of Champassak has approved many construction projects of three hotels, and guesthouses and a casino.
“The development of infrastructure is being conducted with an aim to bid for high season of tourism. Go along with the tourism information promotion that is being conducted and available through website, brochure and the establishment of information centre,” he continued.
It is aiming at alleviating poverty among ethnic people in Champassak province. At present, there are 31 hotels equip with 865 bedrooms, 107 guesthouses with 942 bedrooms, four resorts and 18 restaurants which can accommodate more than 2,000 tourists per day.
Mr Khamphol further stated that last year more than 160,000 arrivals, of whom 45,604 tourists were foreigners visited Champassak province Now there are 206 tourism sites, of which 40 archeological sites, 57 cultural site and 109 natural tourism sites are serving tourists who visited Champassak province.
