Laos has made an anti-tobacco draft law, intensified propaganda on smoking's harmful effects, and expanded non-smoking areas, aiming to reduce smokers in the country.
The Lao Health Ministry is making an anti-tobacco draft law, an important step in controlling smoking in the country, Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Friday.
The country has also launched a campaign on propagandizing harmful effects of smoking on mass media and tobacco packages, and implemented a program on expanded non-smoking workplaces.
According to a survey conducted by the ministry in 2005, smokers, of whom 66.7 percent were males, accounted for 40.3 percent of Laos' population.
