I used to hear that Lao skirt or Sinh should not be too short or too long, just cover th knee of the one who wear. Today i came across the Sayo magazine and found these models wearing very long Lao skirt and wonder if it is O.K ?
Many women still wear sin to go to work, and i hope they will always continue like this, it's so beautifull.
But as they use it every day, it should be comfortable. If they prefer shorter, why not (personaly, i like when it's little bit short). Everyone can choose, i think "how long " is not important. important is quality, hand made, colours... Maybe in the past sin was always long (not sure because if you look at some old pictures, sometimes it's not long), but in this case, shorter sin just mean this is the evolution.... more modern. Why not, everything change, and it's a good thing if it's remain respectfull of the country identity.
For those who don't apreciate shorter or longer sin, just ask yoursefl: "do you prefer see women wearing new style sin or wearing jeans?" Personaly, I 200% prefer sin : any kind : very long, very short, more traditional... i don't care. Sin is lao identity, high quality clothes, and make women sooo beautifull... that's the only important point for me.
PS: this book looks very interesting. Do you know where i can find it or any other book about lao silk (with many pictures, text in english or french)?
I myself prefer Lao women wearing long long Lao sinh just like the women in northern Thailand do. It looks prettier to wear a long sinh instead of a short one. I don't want to see Lao women wearing a short sinh like the Isan women that I saw in the conserts or the shows. The Isan women wear too short sinh in the conserts and shows.
i have seen that book & a few others on Lao textiles being sold in a few bookstores in central Vientiane (Chanthabouly district), including Monument Books on Nokeo Khoummane Road.
