I just wonder if there is any kind of educational campaign about how should the local behave towards tourists in order to make them happy and have a nice memory of Laos.
Please share your thoughts on this issue and bring it to concerned agencies for further discussion so as to ensure better environment of tourism in the country.
To the best of my knowledge, there are some seminars to train Lao staff from different tour companies and hotels to learn how to greet and serve foreign guests in Lao style manner, organized regularly by Lao National Tourism Agency.
In case of Thai tourists, I want Lao people to speak Lao with them. They travel a long way to Laos becuase they want to know and to learn how Laos is different from their country. If we speak Thai with them, they will think that Laos is acutally Thailand. Eventhough, they may not understand some Lao words, but we can find another words to explain them or just use our body language. I think it is more than enough to make them understand. Please don't rush to speak thai to show your thai skill, I know that Lao people good at speak foreign language (Thai). But please give thai people a chance to learn Lao language and to hear the original Lao pronouciation.
