Luang Prabang to attract over 15,000 tourists during Pimai
(KPL) More than 15,000 tourists are expected to visit Luang Prabang province, a tourist jewel of Laos, during the forthcoming celebrations of Lao New Year Pimai, said Mr. Khamphouay Phommavong, Chief of Luang Prabang province Tourism Office yesterday.
This year, the Pimai celebration will fall on 14 to 16 April. The number of tourists is expected to be beyond the accommodation capacity of the current 18 hotels and 150 guesthouses in this northern province, he continued. However, the province has a plan to cope with the increased tourists during Pimai. Some guesthouses at their last stage of decoration will be allowed to provide rooms for guests.
He told KPL Newss reporter that Pimai celebrations in Luang Prabang were expected to generate at least USD6 million in income. Provincial officials are preparing Pimai celebrations and arranging other tourist sites to welcome tourists both domestic and foreign.
